LACE project
“LACE Project" is a recent project I've initiated, focusing on textiles, history, and family.
Experimental painting--This painting is not yet complete.
My hometown is Tainan County in Taiwan, where the textile industry has thrived since the Japanese colonial period. In 1980, my father established a medium-sized textile factory specializing in embroidery lace. The lace products were exported to various destinations, including Hong Kong, India, the United Kingdom, and Japan. I have vivid memories of growing up surrounded by lace piles and textile factories. In 2002, with Taiwan undergoing industrial transformation and the relocation of labor to China and other locations, our family's lace factory was also closed. However, my father retained thousands of embroidery lace samples produced by the factory during its operational years. Even after my father's passing in 2014, I have continued to preserve these lace samples to the present day.
These thousands of lace samples marked the inception of my series- LACE project. About a year ago, I commenced disassembling and cutting the original lace samples, subsequently sewing them onto the half-finished paintings. Once the lace is attached, I progress to the next stage of the painting, and this layering process persists. Throughout this creative journey, I consistently reflect on the past, engaging in a dialogue with the present.
